Cardiopulmonary Program
Promise Hospital of Louisiana - Shreveport Campus specializes in comprehensive rehabilitative cardiopulmonary care for adult and geriatric patients with difficulty breathing due to complex and unresolved acute illnesses, as well as multi-organ failure, diseases, complications or severe injury.
Most of our patients in the cardiopulmonary program are transferred from an ICU or general medical and surgical beds in short-term acute care (STAC) hospitals because they are in need of a longer acute hospital recovery period to reach their full recovery potential.
These include patients:
• who are on life support and require ventilator weaning and management, • with ARDS, COPD, neuromuscular disease, or chronic lung problems, such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema, lung fibrosis, pneumonia, and lung cancer, or • who are recovering from a heart attack or accidents. Upon physician order, our in-patient cardiopulmonary/respiratory therapeutic services are provided by Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCPs) on a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week basis, with diagnostic procedures scheduled as needed. RCPs - who include both registered respiratory therapists and certified respiratory therapists - work under the direction of a board certified physician and medical director to deliver quality cardiopulmonary/respiratory care.
